I Love Neumind

Benny Ong Jia Seng, Raffles Institution (2011)
Attended Leadership in You on 2008, 2009 and 2010.  One of top 10 students in Pei Chun Primary School with 4 A* in PSLE.

When I walked into Neumind School, I was in Primary 2. It was completely different from other enrichment schools. The classrooms were spacious and they were having inspiring words. I went into the second classroom and saw Ms Wong waiting for Vivian, Charlotte and me.

During the long 3 years in Neumind, Ms Wong teaches us how to write beautiful compositions. She tells us how to use the five senses, sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste to capture the readers’ attention. We must have feelings to let readers feel. She also teaches us to read fluently, to stress on some words that are important. She always organizes reading lessons whereby we read and she gives us comments that will help us to improve greatly. Sometimes, she will give us pre-tests to get us to be prepared for our PSLE, which is a year from now for me. When we mark our tests and have mistakes, she will go through with us so that we will not make the same mistakes again in our PSLE.

Neumind also organizes leadership camps. I went with them twice to Leisure Farm and Malacca in Malaysia. In the first camp, I learnt what leadership was and I also learnt that leadership has eight parts to it and they are equally important to being a great leader. In the second camp, I learnt about myself and I also had a greater understanding about what leadership really was. I learnt more qualities about being a good leader, such as thinking ahead and thinking for other people, being determined to complete a task and being cooperative with the team members and work as one united team.

I have many feelings about my experience in Neumind. I deeply thank Ms Wong for teaching so much things to me. I also want to give something to her as a gift of gratitude. To me, she is my wonderful teacher since the day that I have stepped into the class of the rethinking school. I wish that she would teach me more things so that I could do well in the society and repay her the next time I see her.

I also like the Leadership Camp. I thank Ms Gan for organizing the camps. They were fun, interactive and interesting! The fun games showed me how leadership can be demonstrated in many ways. I also like the songs that we sang as they had words of determinations to encourage me to be better than me in the past. I wanted to shout to all the teachers, “Thank you for being in the camp and the fun games and learning lessons that you have planned are a great part of me now!” I wish that I could go to China for the next camp as I want to go there to visit the Great Wall of China and also go into the “Bird’s Nest” to look what the Olympics participants did in the Beijing Olympics.
